  • Screening test for a disease.
  • Confirm disease diagnosis.
  • Finding diagnostic possibilities that can disguise the symptoms of the disease.
  • Predict the course of the disease to determine patient therapy.
  • Assist in monitoring treatment and the effectiveness of therapy given to patients.
  • Knowing whether there are abnormalities or diseases that are often found such as diabetes, dengue fever, or typhoid fever (typhoid).
  • Gender, age, and ethnicity.
  • What do you eat and drink?
  • Drugs consumed.
  • How well did you follow the pre-test instructions?

Laboratory tests are usually done when the doctor needs further tests to make a diagnosis of the disease. Doctors usually advise patients to do laboratory tests with the following conditions:

  • On medication or have a disease that affects blood cells.
  • As part of a routine check.
  • Have some symptoms, such as tiredness, weight loss, fever, weakness, bruising, bleeding, other signs of infection, or signs of cancer.
  • When receiving treatment (drugs or radiation) that changes blood count results.
  • To monitor long-term (chronic) health problems that can change blood count results, such as chronic kidney disease.
  • Consult with a doctor first before carrying out laboratory tests.
  • Prepare requirements before sampling, such as fasting, stopping the medication, and not doing strenuous physical activity.
  • Calm down, no need to worry, stress, or fear.
  • The recommended fasting duration is around 10-12 hours (except glucose checks, only 8 hours of fasting). Avoid eating/drinking foods that contain calories. Only consume clear water. Because it can interfere with laboratory diagnostic tests.
  • The urine sample that is collected is urine in the middle, not the first or last out. A good time to take a urine sample is morning urine after waking up.
  • Consult the results of the examination again with the doctor so that there are no misinterpretations.
